Certificate in Christian Counselling

Christians are not exempt from problems and our churches have many people who need counselling. Unfortunately, our pastors are so overloaded with work that they often cannot cover all those who need help. Well-trained lay counsellors are needed and this course is designed to equip those who feel called into this ministry. Written by Dr Mervin van der Spuy, former head of the Association of Christian Counsellors in SA, this course is the most comprehensive of its kind anywhere. It contains all the theoretical and practical knowledge you will need as a lay counsellor. The training is done from an integrated theology/psychology perspective and equips on a para-professional care giving level. Like all our courses it is Christ-centred and Biblically based. It includes 72 hours of lectures on CDROM and is worth 120 credits.

Certificate of Worship Studies

Worship is such a vital part of our Sunday services, yet worship leaders seldom have any theological or formal practical training. This 120-credit course is designed to meet that need. It will ideally suit worship leaders and those who have a desire to study worship at a deeper level. The course is written by Dr Dave Pass, who is well known in various parts of the world for his seminars on this subject and who has conducted training courses in several countries. The course focuses on the Biblical, historical and practical aspects of worship and as such, provides both the theoretical and practical training necessary to thoroughly equip you.

Missions

In addition to our growing range of Certificate, Diploma, and Degree programmes we have developed a new Certificate programme with a focus on Missions.

The subjects within this programme are exciting, interactive and research-based and will help the current and prospective missionary to be better equipped for service on the field. The courses are designed to help you practically apply this knowledge to daily ministry and effectively impact the communities in which you minister with the truths of God’s Word. All of our courses in this programme are accredited by SAQA and registered by the Registrar of Private Higher Education Institutions. As a first phase we have written a Christian Life Certificate programme (120 credits), 58 credits of which are focused purely on Missions and 62 on essential theological subjects. We are in the process of extending this to the Diploma level and eventually to Degree level.

Missionaries can enrol at any time of the year. A limited number of bursaries are available for needy students.

The first-year courses are:
MIS1120
MIS1100
MIS1121
MIS1122
MIS1123
The Biblical Foundation for Missions
The Historical Perspective of Missions
The Cultural Perspective for Missions
The Strategic Perspective of Missions
Missions Outreach

The second-year courses are:
MIS2121
MIS2120
MIS2100
MIS2240
Paradigm Shifts in Missions
World Religions
Christ’s Missionary Principles
Missions Outreach 2

Students will be required to undertake a short-term mission of at least three weeks (MIS1123) in the first year and at least six weeks in the second year (MIS2240).

Sunday School Teacher

Which worldview are you as a Sunday School teacher using when you teach? You have almost certainly grown up with a secular worldview, which has been reinforced by your schooling and by any tertiary education you might have had. This, of course, has a detrimental impact on your children. SATS has a subject which will remedy this unacceptable situation. Its aim is to change the secular worldview of Sunday School Teachers to a Biblical worldview. This 3 credit, stand-alone course, which has been endorsed by the South African National Sunday School Association (SANSSA), is very practical (there is no exam), yet provides the theoretical base as well. Assessment is based on a practical assignment which teachers will thoroughly enjoy. This subject should be made compulsory for all Sunday School teachers. Discounts for groups are available (perhaps join with other churches in your area). The credits earned can be included in a qualification, if students elect to study further.
